A Seattle transplant, our friend Jeff Ross lived in Bangkok for many years and just recently moved back stateside.
Back in Seattle in the late 90’s, he started his screenprinting business working for Sub Pop and C/Z Records designing posters and t-shirts for their bands. Mudhoney, Nirvana, Afghan Whigs, The Fluid, Reverend Horton Heat etc. This work led to him doing the same for companies in the snowboard industry. Snowboard Connection, K2, Ride.
⠀
He was always making some kind of art, and eventually decided to do this full time after closing his shop down after 20 years and moving to Bangkok.
⠀
This what he had to say about the process being the Tear It Up deck series:
⠀
"The search for destroyed. Torn edges, broken words, bits and pieces. They are all part of how I create my art. Collaging, screen printing, and painting. Everything is connected.
I have been looking, photographing, and collecting what I find for 20 years. Perfection is not the goal, using everything is.
⠀
No rules is the rule. Making art out of what I find is the beginning. Fun and loose.
The Tear It Up series is a combination of my art techniques. The base art is collage, torn posters and advertising collected from around the world. I photographed the collages and converted them to black and white half tones. Then the next part is screen printing and spray paint with stencils. The final stage was adding logos and riders eyes…
⠀
Enjoy tearing up my art on your new skateboard, it is what it is there for.”
